From actor to fashion retailer and brand owner to influencer and style icon, Hilary Tsui has shuttled through numerous roles in her career. She first became known as an actor, starring in Hong Kong films such as The Crucifixion (1994), Lost and Found (1996) and Somebody Up There Likes Me (1996), but gave up her acting career in the 1990s.

Tsui is widely admired for her singular, avant garde aesthetic that yokes together unexpected combinations—one which has earned her more than 200,000 Instagram followers—and so after she left the acting profession, she decided to parlay her expertise into a business career. She has launched fashion brands Chance, which infuses streetwear with playfully feminine elements, and athleisure brand Aim Higher Club, a partnership with high jump star Cecilia Yeung. She has also established the boutiques Liger and Her, the latter an eye-catching space with a beautiful terracota-based interior by Spanish design studio Clap that opened its doors in Causeway Bay’s Fashion Walk in 2019. With an emphasis on streetwear, it offers clothes, accessories and jewellery from an electic line-up of brands both mainstream and independent, including the likes of Hong Kong’s Anais Jourden and South Korea’s Pushbutton and Andersson Bell. Also featuring a cafe, Her has worked with NGO Fashion Farm Foundation to spotlight emerging local designers, including Somewhere Nowhere and The World Is Your Oyster.

Tsui married Hong Kong musical legend Eason Chan in 2006; they have one daughter, Constance Chan.

“I’m afraid of getting bored. I like too many things. That’s why I keep changing my image.”
