No stranger to the limelight, Eleanor Lam, better known as Elly, is one of Hong Kong society’s brightest young stars and a social media phenomenon, boasting some 162,000 Instagram followers and counting. She is also the assistant vice-president at Media Asia, her family’s business.

Elly Lam, the daughter of Hong Kong tycoon Peter Lam and Taiwanese former actress Lynn Hsieh, regularly snaps pictures of her lavish and luxury-filled lifestyle, as she jets from Central to Coachella, party to pop-up, and festival to fashion show—to the envy of many of her fans. Keenly aware of how to leverage her social media influencer status, Lam has sought to assert her own voice as a regional influencer with a love of fashion, food and travel.

Lam counts pop culture and celebrity influences as what have played the most significant roles in her style evolution. “I’ve been influenced by so many iconic looks—each of them is a testament to its particular period in fashion,” says the social media darling. One period that has been particularly inspiring was the 90s supermodel era: “It is the definition of understated elegance and places a focus on natural beauty. I love that you can make a statement [in that style of fashion] in an effortless way.”

Lam also supports female-founded brands such as The Attico, Magda Butrym, Simone Rocha, Khaite, Rodarte as well as emerging Asian designers. “There’s definitely been a rise in the visibility and influence of Asian fashion,” she says. “I love seeing Asian designers like Sohee Park of Miss Sohee, Han Chong of Self Portrait, Chitose Abe of Sacai getting recognition globally and making a significant and bolder impact on the fashion industry.”
