From hidden loft restaurants to exquisite coffee shops, these are the regular haunts of Cedric Grolet in the gastronomic hotbed that is Paris
Thanks to his stunning hyper-realistic dessert creations—and the algorithm gods of TikTok, Cedric Grolet is perhaps the most viral (and famous) pastry chef in the world today. His burst to fame in 2018 landed him the title of the World’s Best Pastry Chef in 2018. Today, grossing over 9.5 million followers on Instagram, Cedric Grolet has since expanded his pastry empire across the globe with outlets in Paris, London, Courchevel and even sunny Singapore.
Just this week, during his visit to the Singapore outpost in Como Orchard Metropolitan, Tatler Dining caught up with the charismatic Frenchman. While pulling apart freshly baked croissants, we break bread over his favourite restaurants and hangouts in Paris whenever he isn’t busy producing jaw-dropping pastry-making reels.
Here are Cedric Grolet’s recommendations, in no particular order.
Le Comptoir des Petits Champs
“This ordinary neighbourhood restaurant is possibly my favourite establishment to dine in when in Paris. There are not many seats unlike a traditional brasserie, and when combined with low ceilings, it is incredibly intimate and private. What I like most is that the menu changes every month as the chefs are attuned to seasonality. The dishes here aren’t overly complex either. I particularly enjoy their take on fresh tuna and hummus to start where the flavours are well-integrated. For mains, I’d look out for the roast chicken that comes along with these French baby potatoes that are just irresistible. Fun fact: it uses the Ratte potato, known for its nutty and buttery qualities.”
